Wild West Sleepover at Waddow Hall in May 2011

Beavers enjoyed a Wild West Theme
Sleepover at Waddow Hall, Nr Clitheroe.

especially when he offered them some sweaty sock
soup at the campfire!




Over the course of 24 hours, Beavers took part in lots of Wild West craft activities,
games and wild west events as well joining in the campfire singsong

Having just raided the tuck shop, these three
Beavers were off to the play ground.

Beavers taking part in the sleepover earned the Nights Away Stage 1 Badge and received a special Wild West Beaver Sleepover Certificate.

The Beavers thought it was great fun flying down the hill on the grass sledges, but it was hard work pulling them back up again!

Visit from Coopers Critters

 Beavers enjoyed an animal encounter with Coopers Critters recently.  

Holding a Giant Snail

The snake was very big, but the Beavers weren't bothered and sat there while it slithered across their legs.



The children were able to hold Giant Snails, a Tarantula, a Boa Constrictor, a really cute baby hedgehog and a skunk called Blossom!

Visit to the Mayor at Accrington Town Hall

Beavers visited the Mayor at Accrington Town Hall and were able to try on the ceremonial robes and hat.

Three Beavers were presented with their Chief Scouts Bronze Awards by the Mayor. The Chief Scout Bronze award is the highest award which Beavers can achieve and is earned by completing all 6 Challenge badges during their time in Beavers.

    

Promise Challenge and Faith Badge

Beavers visited All Saints Chuch, Clayton le Moors last week to complete their Promise Challenge and Faith Badges. Rev John kindly did a quiz with Beavers to test their knowledge about the church.  

We have been incorporating a little into each meeting over the Spring Term including a log chew, taking part in an investiture cermeony, writing a prayer, singing a hymn and joining church parade.  

Visit from the Police

Beavers were visited in force by the police recently. The local constabulary must of been tipped off about the little monkeys as four officers turned up to talk to Beavers about road safety as part of the Beaver Scout Safety Badge.

Beavers took part in scenarios about what they would do if approached by strangers and were also able to look around a police car and CCTV van which were also brought along.

Emergency Aid Stage 1

Beavers recently earned their Emergency Aid Stage 1 Badge.

Beavers had to understand and recognise the dangers inside and outside the home. They also learned what to do at the scene of an accident and how to deal with minor cuts, scratches and grazes. Of course, they took great delight in bandaging each up with imaginary broken arms and legs!

Finally Beavers learnt how to open an airway, which they are seen practising in the photos on a Little Ann resusitation dummy.

Pets at Home

Beavers visited Pets at Home, Blackburn as part of the Animal Friend Badge.

Beavers were given an insight of how to care for various different animals including feeding the fish, stroking a bearded dragon, as well as cuddling rabbits and guinea pigs.
