Emergency Aid Stage 1

Beavers recently earned their Emergency Aid Stage 1 Badge.
Beavers had to understand and recognise the dangers inside and outside the home. They also learned what to do at the scene of an accident and how to deal with minor cuts, scratches and grazes. Of course, they took great delight in bandaging each up with imaginary broken arms and legs!
Finally Beavers learnt how to open an airway, which they are seen practising in the photos on a Little Ann resusitation dummy.

Pets at Home

Beavers visited Pets at Home, Blackburn as part of the Animal Friend Badge.

Beavers were given an insight of how to care for various different animals including feeding the fish, stroking a bearded dragon, as well as cuddling rabbits and guinea pigs.

Ski Rossendale December 2009

Beavers visited Ski Rossendale in December 2009 along with other Beaver Colonies from across Hyndburn District.

Beavers took part in sledging and tubing, hurtling down the slopes on rubber rings, great fun!
The evening was bitterly cold, but made extra special as we had real snow which added to the excitement.

The evening was rounded off with a visit from Father Christmas.

The Christmas Experience

Beavers visited the Christmas Experience at Bowley Scout Camp early in December.

Beavers began their Christmas Experience posing in a giant sleigh, before moving on to Santa's post office, where they posted their Christmas lists in a special post box.

Next we visited the talking reindeer , which was brilliant and even had the adults entranced!!! Beavers were rewarded at each stop with a small present, including reindeer poo (chocolate raisins really!).

Beavers also made Christmas trees from royal icing, christingles and visited Santas sweet shop, where they saw a very impressive sweet making machine which churned out candy walking sticks.

Finally what everyone was waiting for, a vist from Santa himself and guess what?!!! He had a special present with everybodys name on it!!! Magic!

A brilliant evening , thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Visit to the Chocolate House

Beavers paid a visit to The Chocolate House in Blackburn, where they enjoyed a chocolate making demonstration, with lots of chocolate tasting along the way. Beavers saw how the chocolate makers made snowmen and Santa's using special moulds.

All the chocolates which were made during the demonstration were raffled off and were won by three lucky Beavers.

Ten Pin Bowling

Mercer Beavers took part in the Hyndburn District Ten Pin Bowling Competition at Hyndburn Superbowl in October.
Beavers from all over the Hyndburn District took part in the competition over 2 nights and the winning Beaver from each colony then won through to take part in the County Curling Competition held at Bowley early in November.
