Beaver Challenge Day Akeema Shield July 2011

100 Beavers from across Hyndburn District took part in a Beaver Challenge Day at Bowley Scout Camp in July 2011.

The first part of the day was the Akeema Shield which is a mini olympic Competition for Beavers.

Beavers completed about 8 different bases including the egg and spoon relay, box and broom relay, tin can alley, penalty shoot out and dress up sack race to name but a few.

 

 Beavers had lots of fun trying to keep hold of the box between two broom handles, while racing to the cone and back.

The winning team were All Saints and Beavers were presented with a shield which we keep for a year.

Visit to Hesketh Park Farm July 2011

Grant from Accrington & District Charity Stewards (Masons)

Mr Chris Riding from Accrington and District Charity Stewards (Masons) came along to Beavers on Tuesday 7th June to present a cheque for £250 for us to buy some new play equipment.

Visit from Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue

Beavers enjoyed a visit from Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team recently.

Beavers met "Doc" the Mountain Rescue Dog, who made short work of finding a "missing" Beaver hidden behind the Scout Hut.

Beavers tried to sniff out a scent using their noses, but decided that it was best left to "Doc".

Turquoise Beaver very bravely volunteered to act as a casualty who needed rescuing and was strapped in a special stretcher and imbolised, while Beavers made sure she safely fastened in.

Red Beaver also volunteered to be a stretcher case, but wouldn't let me publish the photo!!!!

On the count of 3, Beavers (along with a couple of adults),carefully lifted Purple Beaver up in the stretcher , ready to transport down the mountain!

Beavers also learned a little first aid, which hopefully they will remember if ever they are in situation which needs their help.

Wild West Sleepover at Waddow Hall in May 2011

Beavers enjoyed a Wild West Theme
Sleepover at Waddow Hall, Nr Clitheroe.

Over the course of 24 hours, Beavers took part in lots of Wild West craft activities,
games and wild west events as well joining in the campfire singsong

Having just raided the tuck shop, these three
Beavers were off to the play ground.

Beavers taking part in the sleepover earned the Nights Away Stage 1 Badge and received a special Wild West Beaver Sleepover Certificate.

The Beavers thought it was great fun flying down the hill on the grass sledges, but it was hard work pulling them back up again!

Visit from Coopers Critters

 Beavers enjoyed an animal encounter with Coopers Critters recently.  

Holding a Giant Snail

The snake was very big, but the Beavers weren't bothered and sat there while it slithered across their legs.



The children were able to hold Giant Snails, a Tarantula, a Boa Constrictor, a really cute baby hedgehog and a skunk called Blossom!
